Sony VAIO VGC-RA826G Digital Studio PC (Intel Pentium 4 Processor 550, 1 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, DVD+/-RW Dbl Layer, DVD-ROM Drive), is made by Sony. The list price is around US$1799.99.
This Vaio is VERY nice. Not the absolute top-of-the-line, but close. Very fast and powerful, as you would expect; and I love being able to watch and/or record my cable shows that my better half doesn't care for. :) The Vaio has better capabilities than the DVR from my cable company, and with no monthly rental.

Another great thing about this PC is convenience. For example, I moved my TV/DVD player out of my crowded home office, now that my PC can do the same thing as a TV/DVD and more.

Better still is the well-thought-out placement and generous quantity of drives, ports, and jacks on the Vaio. Now my kludged-together mess of USB hubs, extension cords, external DVD writers, and other various cr-p can all go to Goodwill, and I won't have to stand on my head to use my little Flash drive--just reach down and plug it into one of the THREE front USB ports. This was money well spent.

Linare PC (1.3-GHz AMD Duron, 128 MB RAM, 30 GB Hard Drive, CD-ROM), is made by Linare Corporation.
I'm a big linux user and I was looking for a system for a few clients. These Linare systems are excelent as workstations for a client of mine, as they only need a computer to access the web, they were thinking of going with windows XP, but XP itself costs as much as one of these computers. Thanks Linare

Apple Mac mini M9971LL/B (1.42 GHz PowerPC G4, 512 MB DDR SDRAM, 80 GB Hard Drive, SuperDrive DVD-RW/CD-RW Drive), is made by Apple Computer. The list price is around US$699.00.
For all those people who are concerned about space restrictions and want a powerhouse computer that will not need a large footprint, the Mac Mini is the perfect solution. Packing a boatload of power into a computer yay bigger than a coaster, there is no better power/space combination in the entire computing world!

For all the Windows users who don't want to make the switch to the Mac, with the newest Mac OS you will not look back once you get used to the ways that Apple does things the way they are SUPPOSED to be done.

As per usual Apple, the design of the Mac Mini is perfect, and it's so quiet that your own heartbeat will no doubt be louder than this quiet monster.

If you need a solid family computer that will allow you to surf the net, work with spreadsheets, check e-mail, or just do 99% of the things that you would like to be doing (I don't say 100% because it's not a gaming machine), pick up a Mac Mini for your home office, kitchen, ANYWHERE and you will NOT be disappo...

A lot of the reason I am so pleased with the Mac Mini has to do with Amazon.com. Great customer service, price, shipping. Buying this from the Apple store would have cost me $150 more. Now, about the computer-
First off, I was shipped a unit with upgraded Processor (1.5ghz) and Video. Also the Superdrive is dual layer, not single although I haven't been able to see if it works as a DL. So I'm pretty pleased that I have an upgrade right off the bat.

The slogan says BYODKM, so I'll tell you how I have it set up. Apple bluetooth keyboard and mouse and the display is a 50' plasma TV. This is a really cool setup for my kids, playing educational games.

About 2 days after the unit was delivered, Apple released the new Intel version of the Mini. Initially I was disappointed, but after looking at the new specs I realized I had bought the better PPC version. The Intel version shares video with the 512 main memory and has no dedicated chipset seperate.

The positives are:...

Apple Power Mac G5 Desktop M9592LL/A (Quad 2.5GHz PowerPC G5, 512 MB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, 16x Dbl Layer SuperDrive), is made by Apple Computer. The list price is around US$3299.99.
If you need it, buy it. Never mind how much it costs, by the time you add memory, monitors, applecare, peripherals and software, you will spend $8000 or more. If you want to read e-mail, surf the web, play games, or balance your checkbook: this is not the computer for you. If you want a computer to do desktop publishing, image manipulation, 3d animation, ray tracing, or all of them at once: this is the one.
First, buy the apple care protection. It is so cheap, it's a no-brainer. Then, buy more memory. Remember, 4 Gigabytes is one Gig per processor, so don't be cheap. Upgrades must be done 2 chips at a time. I started with four, 1 GB chips, in addition to the original 512 MB. This seemed to be a wise decision at the time. I can expand or replace, whichever is most economical, next time I want to upgrade. Next, purchase a good surge protector. A UPS would be better, but keep in mind: this system will draw a lot of power. The power supply in the CPU can draw up to 12 amps. That's more than 1400 watts, ...
