Fujitsu LifeBook U820 Mini-Notebook from FUJITSU. The list price is around US$1049.00.

The Canadian http://www.costco.ca has U820 on sale for CDN$1299-$150=$1150 with free upgrade to 4 cell batteries, including Garmin GPS software and Bluetooth.
It's equal to about US$950.
I have seen the U2010 in Bangkok's Pantip Market selling for US$1200 (without GPS). And it was sold in Hong Kong for HK$8888 (about US$1139) without GPS, and without the free large battery upgrade.

I can conclude that Canada is the cheapest place to buy Fujitsu U820/U2010. The catch is... we have to pay a 12% tax... so it may not be cheapest afterall.

Anyway I just ordered mine, I will post my review here next week.

HP Tablet PC tc4200 ( PV984AW#ABA ) from Hewlett Packard (Consumables).
The basic concept of this computer is excellent and I have found the tablet function to be useful and fun. However, managing software with it has been a nightmare. It is unclear whether the issue is XP or XP for Tablet PC, but I suspect it is the latter. Every time I have loaded software it hasn't worked - seriously, every time. I have had to do numerous workarounds, and still many programs are not working. HP has been very responsive, but it doesn't change the basic problem with the software. I do not recommend this machine nor XP for Tablet PC on any computer.

Toshiba Portege 3500 Tablet PC (1.33-GHZ Pentium III, 256 MB RAM, 40 GB Hard Drive) from Toshiba. The list price is around US$2099.99.
When my company decided to spring for new laptops for engineers, I jumped at the opportunity to try something a little different. I'm a huge fan of Toshiba laptops in general (more reliable than a Dell, less expensive/pretentious than an IBM) and the 'think in ink' feature set of this baby seemed like a great meeting accessory.

Now, with three months invested, I like it for a totally different set of reasons than why I bought it.

First: It's tiny. And light. One of my new favorite past times is putting it in "tablet" mode, hooking into my apartment WiFi, and browsing Amazon and web comics. It's no paperback novel, but for a few hours of web browsing, it's great. I also use it folded up with a USB bar code scanner for scanning serial numbers on my current project.

Second: It's got a real battery! I think I was unfairly trained to the 30-minute lifespan of my previous (first Clinton-term era) laptop, but this baby gets every minute of the 3.5 hours advertised. The power saving tools are infinitel...
