Canon 500D 58mm Close up Lens for Canon S2 IS, S3 IS, Pro 1 and Pro 90 Digital Cameras, was released on 2006-10-30 from Canon Cameras US. The list price is around US$130.00.
I use it with a S3 IS.

First shots were totally out of focus and I was kind of disappointed. I had to read more on the way how to use it. First was how to get the maximum magnification and then the correct way to focus.

Basically, if your not an expert, the learning curve is big.

Focus and max. magnification: go to 12x zoom, manual focus to the minimum distance and then move the camera until you get the correct focus. The working distance would be around 35cm, and the magnification is good for shots of bees or bigger insects. DOF at F8 is a little less than 3mm.

Now I am using a tripod and getting very good photos. Using the 12x zoom and the close up lens I get better shots that using the supermacro.

Steiner 10x26 Safari Binocular from Steiner. The list price is around US$229.00.
Nice binoculars, but not as listed by Amazon.

Amazon lists them as a $229.99 item selling for $89.99. At the Steiner website, the $229.99 binoculars are the Predator Pro. These binoculars, the Safari Pro, list for $129.99 at Steiner website.

One has to assume the Predator model is better, if for no other reason than they weigh 3 oz. more. Also has a neater looking case and all lens are coated.

For those of you so interested the interpupillary distance is slightly less than 76mm, which I require, but, in the past, I have lived with Zeiss binoculars of 75mm.

The 4-star rating is Amazon's goof, not Steiners.

Nikon 7216 Action 8x40mm Binoculars from Nikon, Usually ships in 24 hours. The list price is around US$129.99. (*The prices are subject to change) Street price is around $63.99.

The Nikon 7216 Action binoculars proved to be everything positive that other reviewers stated and more! I am thankful that I was guided by those reviews to purchase not one, but two pairs of these Nikon binoculars.
Easy to use, easy to attach the strap, easy to adjust, comfortable to carry. Perfect for a semi-beginning birder (myself) and for general nature/ hiking/ birding use (my fourteen year old son). I am an excellent comparison shopper and I researched the NYC metro area and online thoroughly for price and quality comparisons, listened to experts from the local Audubon society chapter, visited camping and outdoor stores prior to making this purchase. On my first birding walk afterwards, a fellow birder asked to use the binos briefly and, handing them back, remarked to a friend " These are wonderful!-they must have been VERY expensive." Another birder tried them and concurred enthusiastically as well! Thank you, Amazon! When we are ready to "move up", we'll consult this site first. To ...

Konica Minolta 8x42 Waterproof Classic Sport Binoculars from Konica Minolta. The list price is around US$109.99.
I just recieved my new binoculars and as is usual with the old Minolta tradition, you get a great product at a greater price.
I worked for this company many years ago and I remember they were sticklers for detail.
The binoculars are great if, like me, you have to wear glasses; incredible eye relief. It was very heavy overcast and once upto my eyes, someone turned on the lights. It was just that bright. The contrast was not overbearing in any way; just enough snap to remind you of a good quality pair of binoculars. With a short focus of only 18 feet and a sharpness beyond my expectations, I couldn't be any happier with my purchase. I highly recommend them to both pros and amatuers alike.

Canon 8x32 Waterproof Binoculars w/Case & Neck Strap from Canon. The list price is around US$260.00.
I compared this model in a sporting goods store to similar sized $500-1000 models from well known binoc. makers and to some other moderately priced units in the $100-250 range. I thought it outdid the other moderate units in handling and image quality and came pretty close to several of the high end models. For our limited uses this product is excellent. Canon is well known in camera optics but has not been well known in the binocular market and this non IS model is their way of breaking into the market. I use a Zeiss microscope everyday and appreciate good optics.

Konica Minolta Activa 8x42 Waterproof Sport Binocular with Case & Strap from Konica Minolta. The list price is around US$179.99.
I purchased the Activa 8x42D WP Sports recently and received them this week. I went to a local park on Monday evening around 7:30 with mostly cloudy skies. Even in low light conditions I was able to see the red streaks on a Yellow Warbler quite clearly. I made comparisons between the Nikon Monarch ATB and the Leupold Wind River Cascades and find these to be just as good if not better, especially with close focusing for insects, etc. I recommend the Activa. It lets just as much light through and uses quality optics and coatings.

Nikon 7223 Action 16 X 50mm Binoculars from Nikon, Usually ships in 24 hours. The list price is around US$186.95. (*The prices are subject to change) Street price is around $106.54.
I purchased these binoculars to replace the Bushnell
10x50 Falcons which did not last very long. The first
Bushnell binoculars lenses went out of alignment so I
opted to purchase another to replace it rather than go through the hassle of sending it back to be repaired as they were inexpensive. It wasn't long before the second Bushnell also went out of alignment
so both were useless. I looked for another brand and decided on the Nikon Action 10x50 because of the Nikon
lens reputation and favorable reviews for this binocular. Although pricier than the Bushnell I could
see the clarity and sharpness was better. I focused on the eye of a seagull and was impressed with the detail I could see including the fineness of it's feathers. Although on the heavy side I could tell that
the Nikon was more sturdy and better quality than the
Bushnell. I would reccomend them for being a well made
practcal binocular that serves it's purpose well without having to spend too much money.

Bushnell Night Vision Goggle with Headgear from Bushnell. The list price is around US$1060.95.
The Bushnell night vision goggles, is a great pair of goggles for the price it is. Although its only Gen1 goggles it still is very useful. When I brought these from a retailer and proceeded to use them at night I found out that my goggles were actually second hand, but that is besides the point. The Bushnell goggles when used with combination headgear, can feel very bulky and uncomfortable in the prone upright position, but as soon as you push the button to unlock the twisting mechisism the googles feel quite lite and compfortable.

The night vision itself is ok at best. With moonlight only the night vision can be described as a fuzzy black and white blobs, very faint to the naked eye, but combined with the bulit in IR the imaculate glow of the green, is just amazing. With its limited range and ok night vision the bushnell goggles is not too bad, alothough the bulit in Bright light circuit can be a bit at times over sensitive. Over all the bushnell goggles is an ok buy if your looking for cheap aff...
