Philips PET1000 10.2-Inch Portable DVD Player from Philips. The list price is around US$389.99.
Overall I find this unit to be very good. I also agree with most of the other reviews. However I wanted to add a con not mentioned in the other reviews. On my unit the DVD's have to be perfect in order to play. Any small scratch that would still be playable on your main DVD player or your laptop will not play on this unit. It will simply hang up and not play.Buffing the DVD with a repair kit will not help. I had to resort to making a copy of the DVD in order to play with this unit. I suggest looking over your DVD's carefully. If any have a scratch dont expect it to play.

Audiovox D1020 10-Inch Portable DVD Player from Audiovox. The list price is around US$549.99.
I highly recommend this versatile little DVD player. It works great whether you are using the head phones, FM Modulator, or the external speakers.

My son uses it in the back seat as his personal gaming screen and DVD player. It plays all sorts of DVDs, CDs, VCDs, MP3 CDs, etc.

GoVideo DP8240 Off-Road Portable DVD Player with 8.4-Inch LCD Screen from GoVideo. The list price is around US$299.99.
We bought four of these units. Three are working great. One needed service after only a few weeks. They have had the unit for four months and I still do not have a replacement.

Samsung DVD-L70 7-Inch Portable DVD Player from Samsung. The list price is around US$229.99.
I've had this player for over a year now and it's still operating great, especially for the amount of used and traveling it does.
I have found it convienent enough to slide into the back of my purse and bring to resturants or doctor's appointments for my 2 year old to entertain herself with. For that alone it's been invaluable.
She has also thrown it on the floor a few times with a hard enough impact to knock the battery right off. But surprisingly, it still works fine.
We use it almost daily and I have not noticed any problems with duribility (hinges, buttons ect).
The only reason why I did not give it five stars is because it is very frustrating in the car because it stop playing for the most random movements. I wish I had spent the extra $100 for the non-skip version, but at the time, this seemed expensive enough.
The battery lasts a long time, probably 4 hours. It outlasts my laptop! It also plays a couple of DVDs that my laptop will not, go figure.
I am glad I bought i...

Audiovox D1812PK 8-Inch Portable LCD DVD Player with Car Kit from Audiovox Electronics. The list price is around US$349.99.
I now need a new battery for this player and I've found it near impossible to find a battery and when I did find one, it cost $80.00 plus shipping. That's a disappointment.

Panasonic DVD-LS90 9-Inch Portable DVD Player from Panasonic. The list price is around US$399.99.
Worked well for a short time. After the 90 day full warranty, however, returning my unit to the Service Center in Texas yielded an offer of $200 plus shipping for a replacement refurbished unit. Given that price, you would have shelled out well over $500 for a portable player and only have another 90 days of coverage.

Audiovox D1730 7-Inch Ultra Slim Portable DVD Player from Audiovox. The list price is around US$399.99.
This is an okay player, especially at this lower price. Just be aware that our battery lasted only 1.5 years before it would not hold a charge and over time, the unit makes a grinding noise. A replacement battery costs about $75.00+ from Audiovox and to have the unit cleaned/repaired would cost about $95.00. At that point, it's cheaper to just buy a new unit.

Audiovox D1708PK 7-Inch Ultra Slim Line Portable DVD Player with Bonus Pack from Audiovox Electronics. The list price is around US$249.99.
We love the dual headphone jack and 2 pair of headphones. Only complaint is that without the headphones, the volume does not go up high enough and is hard to hear over car noise even at full volume.

Coby TF-DVD7100 Portable DVD Player from Coby. The list price is around US$199.99.
This is a great little protable DVD player for the camper. We don't always take our laptop with us everywhere ... so this DVD player fits the bill. Of course like any other electronic device that has to run on a battery, it doesn't have as long of a charge as I would like.
