Panasonic SL-CT582V Portable CD Player with MP3 Playback from Panasonic. The list price is around US$59.99.
First I paid $20 more than amazon is charging - so that is a good deal..
But I have had alot of mechanical issues with it...
First the headphones broke in about a week and a half - there are some fairly narrow areas and it snapped.
My second issue is that it takes AAA batteries in the player and AA in the separate unit that will extend the play time but really - this is impractical for my son who would take it and put it in his pocket. He was not going to take the extra battery pack. That made replacing the batteries a chore and expensive.
Third - the unit failed in about 5 weeks - after I had thrown out the reciept and couldnt return it to the store. I will say that I called panasonic and they have a year warentee so they are going to replace the unit if I send it to them...however when the headphones broke I just threw them out and they wont replace them. I think they should - I got a fairly expensive unit that was mechanically imperfect, I am sending them th...

Panasonic SL-CT520 Portable CD / MP3 Player with D.Sound Technology from Panasonic. The list price is around US$49.99.
I have been searching for the rechargeable NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) battery HHR-4AGA/2B that Panasonic recommends in the user manual for the past 2 weeks. This battery is not available in stores like Best Buy, Circuit City, Walmart, Target, Radioshack...how does Panasonic expect people to get replacements.
I called Panasonic today and the person I talked to said they dont understand what the part number was!! What a joke! Finally they were able to give me a price $9.00+ shipping (probably more than the battery)+ tax....I think this is a big rip off.
Personally I'm thinking of replacing this product. Doesnt make sense to buy something and have to spend a forture on non-rechargeable batteries. I dont have much of a choice with rechargeables..because other than the HHR-4AGA/2B nothing will charge in this system.
Wont recommend people to buy it...unless you are willing to spend extra money on a separate charger + batteries.

Sony D-EJ106CK Walkman Portable CD Player with Car Kit (Silver), was released on 2004-03-15 from Sony. The list price is around US$59.99.
This CD player has no line out jack, only audio out (headphone jack). So, you need to turn up the volume on the CD player and turn down the volume on your car stereo to get reasonable audio quality on your car stereo using the cassette adapter. Unless you keep the CD player connected to a power source (either to car's 12V outlet using the supplied power adapter or 2 AA batteries), it does not remember the volume setting so you'll have to readjust it on next power up. Also, this unit feels flimsy and seems like it won't hold up more than about a month. Only comes with a 90 day warrantee. All in all, a piece of junk. Not worth $60!!

Sony D-NE506CK ATRAC Walkman Portable CD Player with Car Kit (Black) from Sony. The list price is around US$169.99.
I bought this for two reasons, SONY QUALITY and it was made specifically for CAR USE! I wasn't disappointed! The player has a high piano gloss black cover that resist smudges and has all metal control buttons. It also comes with two remote controls, one for the car and one for the player to carry around. It comes, of course, with everything else needed to play in a car and carry around. But the remotes was what I was really interested in. I found that the car remote simply duplicates basic controls that Sony says can be controlled like a wiper knob in your car. You can use any remote control, however. The nice touch is that this acts more like a "car" knob for particular people, I suppose. They also include velcro attachments that work pretty good at resisting twisting movements or coming off. The player has just about everything to play music the way you like it. I didn't find anything really lacking here for most basic of listening. One feature I liked is the "bookmark" feature. The amount ...
