Apple 30 GB iPod Photo from HP from Hewlett Packard. The list price is around US$349.99.
If there were more than 5 stars, I would give it a higher mark. This unit is awesome, music sounds great. I don't have a complaint in the world on this ipod. Amazon has a good price on this compare to other places I checked. I've had a number of people check out my ipod and they all say this is nice.

Archos AV400 20 GB Video Player/Recorder and MP3 Player AV420 from Archos. The list price is around US$399.95.
I think that this is a very good device. It preforms great at all of its advertized functions. Its screen is amazing. at 3.5 inches you and up to two other people can watch at the same time. At the moment i have 20 hours of video on it and 4 gigabytes of music and it still has about 2 more gigabytes of memory left. The battery life is prett good. I get about 10 hours with music and about 4 hours with video. I get about 6-8 hours wiht mixed use
There are only a few things that i can find thats wrong wiht it, One that you cannot transfer dvds over to the archos wiht your computer. Also it is sometimes slow to open files. This is normal though for a device with this many features.
All in all i think this is a very good device. It has all the features a person into media and photography would want, including a compact flash slot which comes in handy alot, but this device does have its short commings. If you want the newest stuff i would opt for the new Av500 series.

Apple iPod 4 GB mini M9160LL/A (Silver) OLD MODEL from Apple Computer.
There is no doubt that this is a beautiful piece of workmanship. I have an Apple-obsessed friend that I have teased for years about his Apple fixation. So when I bought this secondhand beauty I emailed him my impression:

"Build quality and packaging are exceptional, truly first rate. Excellent tactility. Apple really has that part sorted out; I'm impressed.
Screen and CPU somewhat less magnificent."

Part of my teasing of this pleasant fellow was due to my experience with iTunes; I had given in to his constant evangelism about my trying it out. iTunes represented, for me, all that is wrong with software. Unjustifiably massive bloat, braindead 70MB updates, resource hogging, and treating the user like he has been lobotomized (or hypnotized by Apple). So no iTunes for me, no matter what. The solution?

"The OS is so-so and iTunes is the Root Of All Evil, so I installed
rockbox on it and am enjoying it immensely. I load
mp3/ogg/flac/whatever by copying acr...

Archos Gmini402 20 GB Pocket Multimedia Center from Archos. The list price is around US$249.99.
After searching around and looking at other reviews of this product I decided it would be an excellent media player. I purchase the product and was very pleased with how the product functioned. After 8 days of casual use the product would not start up past the Archos welcome screen. After 3 attempts at getting the RMA department to get my address information correct for a RMA, I then sent the product in early Jan 2006. After a week I received an email from the service department to notify me that the repair would cost $80 without a proof of purchase (PoP) within a year that it was received my their department. No problem since the product broke after a week of use, so it was well within Archos 1 yr warranty. I first attempted to send the PoP by email to the department without any luck. I then faxed the PoP to the RMA department on four separate dates. Each time I called the RMA department the status of my RMA was still "Waiting on PoP." I was told many times that RMA department manager was looking i...
