iriver H10 6 GB Digital MP3 Player Red from iRiver. The list price is around US$279.99.
Okay, I bought this player because of a little extra capacity, and it seemed better than the Creative Labs player. I wanted to use it with Napster. Boy was I WRONG..... After TWO days of use, when I turned it on it said that 'critical files were missing'. I went to the website for help. That is the WRONG place to go if you have an Iriver. It gave me a specific fix for my problem; I guess many people have had it. So much for quality control. The problem was the firmware update didnt work. So, I went for further support. The 'support robot' on the site kept bringing me back to the firmware update that didnt work. Okay, so I call the 800 'tech support' number. I got NO ANSWER several times! No answer on an 800 tech support line? WOW! Now I'm pissed. An 800 number that doesn't work and a tech support robot that doesnt help. So, I had to E-mail my issue to the 'e-mail tech support. That was 8 days ago; I have received no answer, to repeated e-mails asking for help. So, now I have to work with my credit card compa...

iriver H10 6 GB Digital MP3 Player Silver from iRiver. The list price is around US$279.99.
I bought this instead of a mini ipod. I used a friends mini for a while, but this is a better value. It comes with a radio, color screen, an internal microphone so you can record and you can download pics and text to it. It also comes with a protective cover that has a clip, which is great for music on the go. It comes in handy when I exercise. This is a fun little toy.

Creative Zen Micro 6 GB MP3 Player Dark Blue from Creative Labs. The list price is around US$199.99.
I have a Sansa mp3 player which blows ($90 piece of plastic). This player feels much higher quality (and it is) and personally I found the menu system more powerful than the Ipod. Another advantage to this player is that the battery is replaceable. The Ipod you have to send in, go without it for a week or two, and be charged both for labor and the parts.

The blue/white lighting looks fantastic as well!!
I wish I got one... lol =(

iriver H10 6 GB Digital MP3 Player Grey from iRiver. The list price is around US$279.99.
My friend let me borrow his iPod for about a month. It's a nice player, but I wasn't impressed with its features. It had about the same sound quality as my old CD player

No matter what people are saying on how great the iPod sounds, the H10 sounds even greater, especially with the Custom EQ or SRS WOW turned on. I have yet to find a player that comes close to the sound quality that H10 is capable of, provided that you have good headphones.

The earbuds that come in the box are mediocre at best. I strongly suggest investing in some higher quality headphones/earbuds. I use a set of $20 SONY earbuds.

I always charge it overnight so the battery life is almost never a concern with me, but iRiver claims to have a 12 hour battery life. The battery is removable and extra batteries can be purchased from the iRiver website. It charges through the USB port or through the provided AC adapter.

The touch pad is a true touch pad. Most other touch pads for electronics are heat sens...

Rio Carbon Pearl 6 GB MP3 Player, was released on 2005-05-15 from Rio. The list price is around US$199.99.
I origionally diden't want to go with the flashy ipods and there overpriced ness. Perhaps that was just a bit rash though. I had my rio Carbon for....1 year and a month. and over this time it has taken quite a beating.
Pros. : It has good sound quality and it has a lot of features on it, voice recorder, stop watch.

Cons: It has "frozen" on me however i just needed to hit the reset button or simply wait for the battery to die.
What finelly did it in, was in fact the WHEEL its on the top right exposed...Naturally its the first ting to go... Im still undecided at this point if i should replace with an ipod or not... Really If you reading this that means your probally considering a rio. Dont. Theres a reason its being discontinued.
Im not saying buy an ipod but please dont get a rio. Its just not worth the hassle.

Apple iPod mini 6 GB M9807LL/A (Green) OLD MODEL from Apple Computer. The list price is around US$249.99.
I got an iPod mini as a gift from my parents for my birthday almost 2 years ago. I have had to have the Apple store replace it with a new one twice. The first one that I got wouldn't turn on at all. The second one, the wheel wouldn't stay locked, then it wouldn't hold a charge, and by the time I brought back to the store it was completely spazzing. The third and most recent replacement mini that they gave me had been working fine but as i was using it, all of a sudden the screen faded so now the screen is useless. The people at the Apple store told me that they had never seen this happen before and had no idea why it happened. Its not under warranty anymore and they told me that the only thing I could do would be to send it to an online repair shop or basically use it as an iPod shuffle. I never dropped any of the iPods, they never got wet, there is no rhyme or reason (even the Mac genius' couldn't figure out why this has happened) for why I have had 3 of them not work. This iPod mini has been nothing but ...
