Sony ICD-SX25 Digital Voice Recorder from Sony. The list price is around US$199.99.
I bought this to record rock shows, after having been impressed with the quality of some bootlegs I'd heard recorded on it earlier in the year. I've recorded four shows so far and considering that this recorder isn't designed for that sort of dynamic range or level, the quality is truly outstanding. Minimal to no distortion, very clean sound. I've heard bootlegs recorded on far more expensive equipment come out far worse. The sound quality is a bit flat, and the bass doesn't carry much punch, but it's a good quality and the size makes it SO easy to get into a venue. For the price it just couldn't be beat for my purposes.

Creative Zen Micro 5 GB MP3 Player Pink from Creative Labs. The list price is around US$179.99.
We bought one of these for my daughter and within a month the thing would freeze up. She sent it back for repairs and left the battery in. They fixed it and sent it back without the battery and told her it would cost $40 dollars for a new battery. I was mad and wrote the head of their public relations department a letter and Creative called me the next morning and had a battery overnighted to my daughter. (hint: go to the public relations for fastest results). Then it happened again and they would send a new one (didn't have to call their PR after the first one). This happend 3 more times till my daughter quit using her sony sport headphones. Then after about 3 months the headphone jack started having problems, so she brought it to me and I fixed it. And it has worked fine since then. The same thing happened to my video zen:m using the sony headphones. Evidently there something with sony headphones and creatives MP3 players. Now my daughter has a ipod nano and seems really happy with it.

Panasonic RR-US360 Digital Voice Recorder from Panasonic. The list price is around US$69.99.
I really like my Panasonic Digital Voice Record, as far as recording and playback go. I've been using it for years. However, the proprietary file format means that you have to use the software that comes with the device, which is not compatible with Windows Vista. Since my old computer died and my new one has Vista, I no longer can transfer the files to my computer. Panasonic provides terrible support. According to their technical support on the website, the device is not compatible with Vista, and they have no plans to make it compatible. Also, they don't have the interface software available on the support page, so if you lose it, you're out of luck.

Unfortunately, I'd be very hesitant to buy another electronic device like this from Panasonic again due to their lack of support.

Olympus WS-200S 128 MB Digital Voice Recorder from Olympus. The list price is around US$129.99.
Only weakness I see is the speaker. It's just too weak needing more volumne range. Other than that this is an awesome digital recorder, small, light weight great battery life, easy to down load files etc. I'd buy it again but to get a 5 star rating they need to upgrade the speaker.

Olympus VN-960PC 128 MB Digital Voice Recorder with PC Link from Olympus. The list price is around US$99.95.
I use the Olympus to tape a class and to tape a radio broadcast from the sound booth. In both cases, this little gizmo picks up every sound in the room. On playback, every word is clear and concise. I have great sound quality. I'm not a gadget person but this one is very easy to use. It's small enough to fit in any purse or pocket and it's very sturdy and resilient. In other words, it was worth every dime I paid for it and then some.

Radio Your Way LX AM / FM Radio Recorder from PoGo! Products. The list price is around US$199.99.
I had looked for months for a good MP3 player that would handle MP3 and several other common formats as well as have a radio that played AM and FM. Only the Pogo could do this. I addtion it has a timer record feature, internal clock and calander and microphone for voice recording. True the manual is not very good. It does not cover all of the features and menues well, but they are no too difficult to figure out. The audio on the built in speaker is what you would expect for such a small radio, very poor monaural. However the audio on the included earphones is outstanding. It even has a very functional eqaulizer that does work despite some of the reviews. I use it to listen to music record radio shows. and to listen to talking books. it is a snap to trnasfer these file from any computer to the unit though data transfer is a bit slow. the 1 gi memory card is adeqaute for several hours of high quality music and talk. The battery life has been in excess of seven hours. Get the FM adapter as an extra to play the...

Olympus DM-20 Digital Voice Recorder and Music Player from Olympus. The list price is around US$269.99.
I started with an Olympus DM-10 DVR, using it daily for recording college course lectures that I converted to CDs I could listen to on my daily drive. The DM-10 model was very adequate for my needs, and I especially appreciated the voice-activated feature, which cut my actual recording time (and thus playback time) in half. I loved this model, although I occasionally had to be sure to download and clear the memory due to space limitations. Unfortunately, I either lost mine or it was stolen. :-(

After 6 weeks of searching in vain for my beloved DM-10, I gave up and opted for a replacement. While perusing my options, I can across the Olympus WS-300M 256 MB Digital Voice Recorder. Its nice compact size -- and especially, it's incredible memory -- made for an enticing offer I couldn't pass up. Sadly, after a few weeks of trying various settings on the WS-300M, it became clear that this mini unit wouldn't do the trick. (See my scathing review of the WS-300M!)

After returning the WS-3...

Olympus DS-2 Digital Voice Recorder from Olympus. The list price is around US$190.15.
This is a fantastic unit -- easy to use, exceptional quality and records for more hours than you will ever need. Plus it is small and light. Only thing is that I always used a compact external microphone to really take advantage of the sound quality.

The only problem is the price. I got it a few years ago and was fine for then. If I was shopping today, I would get the DS-30 instead.

I just think it doesn't fit any market. You will not regret if you buy it, but I would advise either the higher end Olympuses for more quality or lower end Sony for lower price.
