Reviews:| Rating 4.5/5 from 15 reviews | | Great | | Rating: 5/5 2010-02-05 | | Got it for my five year old grandson who LOVES trucks. He is on this game hours at a time, takes it with him between our house and home. Was afraid it would be too old for him, but he plays it well, his very favorite game. | | 18 wheels of fun | | Rating: 4/5 (1 out of 2 think this is helpful) 2009-04-15 | | The game 18 wheels of steel petal to the metal is the 3rd edition of a very fun trucking line up.Build your trucking empire, choose your own way, make bookoos of cash as your employees delever loads. | | Great semi-truck simulator! | | Rating: 5/5 2008-11-09 | This is a great game! I have been playing this for three years! It has lots of trucks, and lots of cargos. I have figured out that every time you deliver three trailers, you get a new truck!
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | | Medal to the Metal Review | | Rating: 4/5 (2 out of 2 think this is helpful) 2008-08-18 | This compares Pedal to the Metal against the original version Across America. The original was fine but it got boring after awhile. With this version, its the same game in principle but this time you are told what loads to take and where. The roads texture is must different and looks more like real roads. The Exits are another matter. No more Cloverleafs; they are hard right and left turns which means you have to be really careful about your speed of you are going to rack up damage for sure.
To guide you on your way there is an arrow overhead telling you where you should be going. This I think is a bad move. Tell me about a trucker that has an arrow outside his cab telling where where to go. If you can't read a map or road signs then you shouldn't be driving.
On this version you get to cross the border to Mexico which is a nice touch. Even the loading dock down south is much cruder sort of reflecting a poorer country.
Many people complain about the dog trucks in the beginning on various versions. I don't, for it gives you an opportunity to master the controls and earn a better truck. Actually I prefer the more doggy trucks. The slicked up ones can get away from you really fast and are much harder to control.
About the laws. Most are enforced at the drop of a hat except for Red Lights. Many a time I have sailed through a town running every red light in the place with no penalty and I have enjoyed running down all sorts of traffic and road signs. Watching the motorcycle sail is a hoot. Trouble is that the cop car is like a brick wall. It doesn't move when you decide to go postal. Too bad. If you are going to get a ticket you might as well see the cop car get smashed up too.
If all you have played is the original version of 18 wheels, then this version will be more fun. | | Way fun | | Rating: 5/5 (3 out of 6 think this is helpful) 2007-01-11 | | I got this game for my 11 daughter. She totally loves to play it. You drive a semi truck acrossed North America. You pick up orders and deliver them, stop for gas, you chose the route you want to take. |
