Outstanding Watch
Rating: 5/5 2010-05-10
I've had this watch for more than five years now. I wear it every day in every condition, it has lasted me through paintball, swimming, hiking, climbing, and everything else a person does in their daily life for five years. The watch did seem to use up battery very quickly but when I turned off the auto light it stopped sucking down battery. The only problems I've had are (1) the light stopped working about 2 years ago but the numbers are reflective so you can still see them in the dark if you catch the light right, (2) just 2 weeks ago the strap keeper broke but this I believe is my own fault for sliding it over the buckle repeatedly. This watch has been dropped, stepped on, thrown, and abused and is still running strong.
Good but Pricey Disposable Watch

I've had my casio for over a year now and it's been a great watch until the battery died. I thought it would be a simple battery replacement but apparently every store I went to said that this battery replacement would cost up to $65. Apparently what the salesman failed to mention when I purchased this watch is that a regular battery would not work and I had to purchase a rechargable battery. At $65, I might as well buy a new watch and it won't be another Casio. Solar watch... yeah right.
Solar charge not that great

I have had a G-shock before and love the watches. Cool looks and solid. The problem with this one is that the Solar charge system does not keep up with normal use. The battery slowly dies and you will reach a point in a year or so where the charging will not support the use...

In other words. Solar is nice, but if it can support the use or if you can't replace the battery and have to rely on it not. Mine is always empty after a day and the backlight does not come on anymore either.

I am going to toss it out and get another watch....
Super tuff, execellent.

This is my second Casio and I'll never buy another brand of watch. They're a little pricey but well worth it. I've had this one for a number of years and replaced the battery twice. I'm tough on watches and tend to occasionally bang and hit them on various things while working on my car, etc. A poorly aimed hammer swing has landed on the face of the watch more than once and the watch didn't care except for some expected scratches on the face.
Living in a remote location (in a valley), the atomic updates don't work every time, but it does update.

It did go a little crazy on me after the 2nd battery was installed. I was in a rush and didn't do a good job installing the back plate and gasket (my fault). Water was able to enter the body but it was still functional. Now there are times when the display wanks out and the light doesn't illuminate. I'll be buying another G-Shock.

CONS:
-no count down timer.
-solar doesn't seem to have any effect. - when the battery was getting low, light had little effect on the status of the charge. no big deal, new battery (about $5 at walmart) and it was as good as new.
Durable as a brick, but get some extra bands...

I've had this watch for about 7 years now, and it's frankly indestructible. Solar battery is utterly dependable, and living in Colorado (atomic time radio based near my house) I've NEVER found it to be off in terms of time. I'm an ER nurse, and have worn this watch on a daily basis since buying it for about $80. I've gone through 5 bands, averaging about 1 per year - that's through daily showers, Chlorhexidine hand wash, the Gym, slamming it into walls, you name it. It is quite simply the most dependable piece of technology I've ever encountered. I'm looking into one with a compass because I've realized that I'm about to buy another band, at which point I'll have spent more on bands than the watch itself. The next one will have a metal band. That's the only weakness I've found, is that the bands are expensive, and not as long lasting as I'd like.
