Comes with numerous problems, I mean numerous.

I got one of these things off ebay. The dvd player has numerous & technical design flaws. When I first got the dvd player and plugged it in the battery it just would not work but when I plugged it in the AC adapter it did work but if I moved the cord around A LITTLE BIT or moved the dvd player a little bit it would flat out not work. What I did notice was that pushing the AC cord in the power connector on the DVD player resulted in the dvd player working just fine. I opened the bottom of the dvd player and saw where the power connector was. When you push on it, it moves a little bit. So while pushing the AC cord in the power connector one way, I used hot glue from a glue gun to glue the damn thing in place. Then waiting 10 minutes for the hot glue to cool I FIXED that problem :). Little did I know more and more problems were headed my way. I tried the remote, it did not work. I checked the remote battery with a multimeter and it was at 3v. So the IR port or something else inside the dvd player was broken. Then I noticed that the longer the dvd player was on, the more prone it was to dimming the screen to almost pitch black if moved the screen a little bit or even if you moved the dvd unit (if you look closely you'll see the movie is still playing!).

The problem with the screen dimming is much more likely with the battery connected than the AC adapter. When I looked closely on the inside of the dvd player with a flashlight I noticed leaking capacitor fluid. Once the screen dims it seems nothing will get it back to normal until you shut down and reboot the thing. After you run a movie on for a while, the problem is really bad. One little tiny move on the monitor and it will shut off.

I simply don't understand why it does this. You can move the monitor around all you want at the beginning of a movie, but once your in 15-20 minutes don't move the monitor AT ALL unless you want a dark screen! What a poorly made POS. If you try to open the player, make sure you have the correct small phillips screw head for the screws or you will have a paperweight. By the way, I think the problem has to do with the 2 large screws in back. When one of the big screws in back wasn't tight the problem with the dim screen was very severe and would happen if I moved the screen or unit just a little at the start of a movie. When I made it tight the problem sort of went away until later in the movie. I'm not going to waste time to replace a capacitor on this thing, who knows what other problem could pop up.

I find this Ultra Slim DVD player amazing. Its picture quality is very good. The speakers are also good. I won't say that the speakers are too good. I have a pair of Bose speakers which I connect to this DVD Player and then watch movies. I feel like I am watching a movie in a big theater.
Ok but.....

This is an okay player, especially at this lower price. Just be aware that our battery lasted only 1.5 years before it would not hold a charge and over time, the unit makes a grinding noise. A replacement battery costs about $75.00+ from Audiovox and to have the unit cleaned/repaired would cost about $95.00. At that point, it's cheaper to just buy a new unit.

Amazon.com Product Description
Audiovox's affordable D1730 features a broad, seven-inch widescreen (16:9 aspect ratio) LCD, and compatibility with DVD-Video, VCD/SVCD, audio CD, CD-R, CD-RW, and MP3-encoded discs. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's coaxial digital-audio output for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. Composite-video and stereo analog-audio inputs and outputs let you hook up additional AV gear for viewing through the D1730. All audio and video inputs and outputs are of the minijack .125-inch size, so compatible adapter cables are required (one stereo analog audio and one composite-video cable are supplied)

S-video and composite-video outputs simplify hookup with a home TV. If you don't have a surround receiver or six-channel speaker setup, you can still make every movie night the ultimate experience: Q-Surround Sound simulates surround sound through two speakers or headphones. Playback options include frame-by -frame slow motion, zoom (image magnification and reduction), multiple angle viewing (with applicable discs), and 20-track programmable sequencing.

The D1730 comes with an AC adapter and a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that provides up to three hours of playback (power consumption depends on the operations of the player, such as screen brightness, volume level, etc). Other supplied accessories include a user's manual and a remote control. Headphones are not included.
