Antec Sonata II Case Review - From Nosise to SilenceSubmitted by zen on 30 July, 2005 - 23:56.
When I first bought the Antec Sonata II Case, I thought it was the loudest case in the world. The Power Supply Unit sounded like a lawn mower... I was hugely disappointed. My Sonata I case was very quiet, that's why I bought the Sonata II case... But then the fan in the PSU just sounded like a jet engine... OK, I'm a bit exaggerated, it wasn't even as loud as my first generation ATX case, but it was significantly louder than the Sonata I. So I searched the net... basically every problem in the world can be resolved by Google, and I did find my solution... The solution is quite simple, all I need to do is to disconnect the 3 pin chassis I connector... then my PSU is absolutely quiet. I'm relieved, I don't have to live with my lawn mower in my bedroom. I can still hear the fan noise, but it's not very noticeable, and is quieter than my ARIA case, also by Antec Above is the picture on how to disconnect the 3 pin power connector... I can't check the chassis fan speed anymore but that's a small sacrifice... Oh, the case is excellent, the material is solid, much more improved from the Sonata I case. You can read about the improvements from somewhere else on the net, I'm not going to repeat that. Only one thing others seem to neglect: the air duct was very clumsy. It was extremely difficult to take out. So I ended up remove the bottom support from the air duct, the structure seems as solid as before. Here's how I did it: So just remove the silver metal thing, and boom, the air duct is a piece of cake to remove.... |
